Real Fire

(via simple everyday glamour)

I have done it! I have finally convinced Timothy O that we need a fireplace. I think the deprivation of a heater (on my part, read lower) and the fact that we have a few drafty gaps here and there due to renovating has helped sway him immensely!

The reason why we no longer have a heater is a few years ago I actually purchased one of those faux flame heaters; I was transfixed almost hypnotised by it's dancing flames. I had that baby cranking all day long, wheeling it around from room to room with me, where ever I was, it was (think devoted maltese terrier). It all ended in tears, as these sorts of relationships tend to do when..... the electricity bill came. Long story short I sold it on ebay.

The above images are from my fireplace file, which I think will be rapidly expanding!

Pool Pavilion

Unknown Source

Good friend of ours have asked me to help out with their recently purchased house here in Ascot. One aspect that I'm very excited about is their separate pool pavilion. I love an out building which has purpose, yet also a dash of glamour. Above are a small selection of elements I have gathered to start the ball rolling. Their backyard has an air of Hampton esque proportion about it, so you really can't go past the classic Adirondack Chair for comfort and style, paired with understated market umbrellas. Talking about understatements, I do hope to convince them to put in an outdoor fire pit!

The True Warmth of a Fireplace

My goodness, do I love a fireplace. I grew up with a fireplace, however I have never had one since, even with all my rented travels through apartments and houses, they have always escaped me. What I love about having a fireplace in winter is that it brings everyone out into a central spot. Quite primitive really; loved ones crowding around feeling the warmth and watching the flames of the fire while conversing. However what I probably love the most is that within this charmed little space is what I call the 'bones' of the house, the real depth; photographs, trinkets and collected bits and pieces, placed on the mantle and surroundings that are anonymous to anyone else, yet so loved by the people who lovingly place them there.
