I have BIG plans for this weeks' market! Lots of new stock has made its way here and I'm thrilled to be taking it to the market this Saturday at The Powerhouse! I'll be giving you a sneak peek at some of my favourite pieces later in the week. Some great summer outdoor furniture, old metal troughs (fill them with hydrangeas - they make wonderful planters!) and a sprinkling of general rarities!

See you there!

A short pause...

Too much happening around here for words it feels!

I know you were probably hanging out to see the results from yesterdays second coat on the floors. Alas, my hard working web designer is doing some modifications to my new website and is importing previous blog posts, so I think it's best to sit tight and wait until all is complete! (The floors look great by the way!)

Very soon I'll be able to share with your the floor wood wash results, plus my new sparkling website! Gosh, life goes fast some weeks! .... plus there is a market this Saturday!

Talk soon!

The above image is from the cookbook 'A Little Bit of This, A Little Bit of That', styled by me and shot my Nikole Furnari.

"A little bit of this, A little bit of that"

©Kara Rosenlund

Well, well, well... it has finally ARRIVED!

Yes, after all of the hints over the past couple of weeks I can finally share with you the book I worked on earlier in the year for Penguin Publishing. Styled by me and shot by Nikole Furnari, which will be available on the 31st of October.

'A little bit of this, A little bit of that' is the debut cook book from the Junior Masterchef winner Isabella and her twin sister Sofia, with their mother Sylvana and grandmother Nonna Rosa.

Best played out in the kitchen, the book captures their much loved family life in Brisbane through the language of food, love and laughter. Accompanied by touching personal stories, the girls share traditional Sicilian recipes have been past down from mother to daughter over the generations.

I absolutely loved working on this project. In amongst the devastating Queensland floods I would regularly visit the girls mother Sylvana for shoot prep. What would start off as a simple props appointment would turn into an all day expresso fuelled laughter marathon, with a delicious 'take home' bundle of Sicilian food!

If you are looking for that extra bit of inspiration in the kitchen or even that little bit of perspective in terms of family life, you will find it in this book... I guarantee.

I'll be sharing some of my favouite recipes in a couple of weeks!

Brisbane People!
Come along with me to the Merthyr Village in New Farm to meet the girls on Saturday the 29th of October from 1pm, where they will be signing their book and also judging the 'Cupcakes for a Cure' Competition! For our interstate friends you can find out when the girls will be coming to your neck of the woods here.

Shoes That Last

© Kara Rosenlund

I love it when old utilitarian pieces slowly become less of an object of practicality and industry and shift more into an object of beauty.

This can be said about this bundle of old french metal shoe lasts I recently acquired for 'Travelling Wares'. I have always been a fan of the 'last' - in both metal and wood, they make great paperweights, door stops and I have even been known to turn one into a door knocker once. Yet above all I find them strikingly beautiful.

Every house needs a piece of French industry, no?

P.S. - Its a market week!! How exciting! Saturday here we come!

Holding On

©Kara Rosenlund

Holding on alright! Thought I would share my new holding page over at the Kara Rosenlund website. Hope we don't have to hold on for a new website for much long though! I'm sure there are lots of people wearing hard hats and neon, measuring and concreting my website and online shop together, I'm sure! I can even hear the wolf whistling! They must be working on it!

Have a good weekend! Hope to see you at the market!!

K xx

P.S Hardhats, neon and wolf whistling, mmm that sounds like a bad rave I once went to! haha!

Shoot Unveiled - Escape to the Coast

©Nikole Furnari

You may remember a couple of weeks ago I jetted off to see photographer and BFF Nikole Furnari for a few days. We collaborated on a lifestyle shoot in her new home town on the Bellarine Peninsula in coastal Victoria, inspired by the raw wild coastal beauty.

I always have a giggle when my carryon luggage is x-rayed at the airport when I'm styling abroad or sourcing. I really must appear like some smuggling gyspy woman, with pots and pans and baking racks and china and bones crammed into my carry on luggage. Clinking and clanking my way on to the plane, attempting to look as effortless as possible (you know you are only allowed a couple of kilos in the cabin!). It is always worth it though - Nikole brings a shoot together like no one else. I love her imagery and the energy she brings to every collaboration we endeavour to do.

Speaking of which there is another collaboration I'll be sharing very soon. It was until yesterday a top secret!

Pop over and have a read of Nikole's blog....

A very big thank you to Sophie Rogers, our fantastic multi tasking chef on the day, the fabulous hair and makeup artist Sarah, charismatic models Kate and Tim and the lovely Steph - Nikole's super assistant!

Brusha Brusha Brusha

© Kara Rosenlund

Brushes, I really think they have been left behind in the whole eco household cleaning movement. Sometimes you need to look backwards to move forwards and where else to start than with brushes.

Seriously, I use mine every day for all sorts of purposes and I'm continuously surprised by the strength of the humble bristle; dusting crumbs off the table and the stove top, wedging grim out of unusual spots, scrubbing the bottom of glass bottles, pots and pans.

I pick mine up when ever is see an unusual shape or size, a good place to find them is at your local paint supply shop!

Love home tips!

Post Holiday Blues

©Kara Rosenlund

Thats right - I have Post Holiday Blues! Actually, I'm not the only one, between you and me Timothy O has them too. We stayed in a little shack high up amongst sand dunes with crashing waves below, cracking fresh crabs for dinner and drinking pina coladas while listening to Cameroon tribal music. Whales and dolphins played off shore in the sea and so did we! I now have 'new season' freckles scattered across my nose, a little memento of the fun had by the sea!

Guess what! There is a market this Saturday at the Powerhouse!
I found lots of new treasured bits while I was away too! Now that is exciting!
Hope to see you Saturday!

Pineapple Head

©Kara Rosenlund

So, it has probably occurred to you as much as it has occurred to me that I don't seem to get many comments on my blog. Naturally I have thought about this... **a lot**.

Comments are the equivalent to getting picked for the netball team or the hockey team, or even the school dance, no one likes to look unpopular and be left on the bench.

Timothy O has been bombarded with constant questioning... "Whats the go? Am I really off the mark? Why, why, why? You can tell me the truth you know? Is the blog really that bad? I even take all my own photographs ... is it the photographs, are they really bad?"

... turns out I had one of the comment settings turned off in my blogger account.... which meant it made it rather difficult to make a comment. umm..sorry, turns out it wasn't you after all, it was actually me! Yup, feeling like a bit of a pineapple head right now.

That means anyone can comment on my blog now, even spammers, c'mon, go, comment, tell me what you think.

K xx

P.S How bonkers are pineapples anyway! Bonkers!

Last Call!

©Kara Rosenlund

Well, we are all packed up and ready to go for tomorrow's Jan Power's Farmers Market! I even did an emergency dash to *Bunnings for a navy 'Delux Gazebo' to keep the rain out over our trestle tables!

I think it is safe to say it will be wet tomorrow; however we will be there. So once you have had your glorious wintery sleep-in, listening to the rain come down on the roof, get into your wet weather gear and come and say hello! (I always love a reason to dress up!)

I took a few quick shots as I was getting everything ready for tomorrow. English and Italian white china, large sea shells and rose pink barnacles by the handful (perfect for a display!), old Japanese flower bowls and old English garden forks. Plus lots of baking tins if you are in the mood to bake a wintery cake over the last weekend of winter!

Oh... and we now have fancy pants eftpos! Oohhlala!

(*for our international friends Bunnings is a huge hardcore hardware megastore)

Stock Sneak Peek

©Kara Rosenlund

Would you believe I am actually doing a last minute source for tomorrow's market. I have been invited somewhere very secretive and very exclusive to have a poke around, so lets hope I find some delights for us all!

Above are a couple of shots of some new stock.

Old English platters, perfect proportions for roast chicken with heavy silver cutlery.

Trio of white French plates with gold trim.

Gorgeous old Tinware for baking cakes and making bread and also a set of cookie cutters.

Generous mule coloured French Napkins with silver cake lifters and pretty cake plates.

Enamel colanders in white and also cream!

Plenty more to come!

String Bags and Bentwoods

©Kara Rosenlund

String Bags and Bentwood Chairs.... I happen to love both... and both will be available at 'Travelling Wares' on Saturday!

Usually on Saturday mornings after I have set up 'Travelling Wares' I actually take my own string bag, pick up a croissant and do a quick round of the market, picking up fresh produce that we might need over the weekend, piling it into my string bag and feeling very chic at the same time! Giggle. They are surprisingly expandable and hold quite the load!

More to reveal soon!

Email me if you are interested in the little french string bags or the bentwood chair! hello@kararosenlund.com

Market This Saturday!

Yup, thats right, we will be at the Jan Power's Farmers Markets from dawn this Saturday, so make sure you come by and say hello! We have lots of new things!

Pack your umbrella and squeeze into your wellingtons, (think Kate Moss Glastonbury 2008 style - the Pete years!) as it looks as though there could be a slight chance of a shower...eeeek!

We have been extremely lucky in the past weather wise - glorious sunshine for every market we have done... so I think our number is up!

I will be checking the forecast.. hourly... for any changes; I'll keep you posted!
